Sustainability and impact

Jua Tano was born from a direct collaboration with the Kenyan Embassy in Belgium, with a clear objective: to showcase the work of small Kenyan producers and the richness of their emblematic varieties. This approach ensures transparent selection, fairer compensation, and direct access to high-quality batches from renowned terroirs.
The project supports family farms located in high-altitude areas, where coffee cultivation remains a vital economic pillar. Producers benefit from agronomic support and training programs related to soil management, crop quality, and sustainable practices.
By choosing Jua Tano, we are helping to strengthen a sector that values local know-how, the preservation of historical varieties (SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11, Batian, K7) and a more resilient agriculture for future generations.

Fermentation process

This batch follows the traditional Kenyan washed process, renowned for its precision and ability to highlight the fruity acidity typical of the country.
The cherries are purchased from small farms and delivered to washing stations where they are pulped, then fermented in water for 18 to 36 hours depending on the temperature. This step develops the aromatic clarity and intensity of the citrus.
The coffee is then carefully washed, then dried on African beds for several days, turned regularly to ensure perfect ventilation.
This process produces a bright, juicy and ultra-clean cup, with that recognizable Kenyan signature: bright acidity, citrus notes, umami nuance, long and biscuity finish.

Producer's vision

Warenew Estate (Newton Karanja)

For the Kenyan producers involved in Jua Tano, growing coffee is not just a job: it's a heritage.
Most of them work small family plots, often less than a hectare. Their vision is simple: to preserve the historical varieties that have made Kenya famous, and to produce batches that fully express their terroir.
They see Jua Tano as a showcase of their expertise: a coffee that represents their collective work, their pride, and their desire to pass on to future generations a strong, sustainable and recognized coffee culture.
